CBAT Sensory Motor Apparatus (SMA) : What to Expect & How to Prepare

The CBAT Sensory Motor Apparatus (SMA) test assesses your eye–hand–foot coordination and fine control. You’ll use a joystick and foot pedal to manage the horizontal and vertical movement of a drifting target, with the aim of keeping the moving circle as close to the centre of the cross-hair as possible.

This page explains how the test works and what you’ll be required to do during the control task. As the exercise is straightforward and largely about coordination rather than technique, this page is kept brief.

Sensory Motor Apparatus Format & Conditions

You have 8 minutes for this test, whereby you must keep the ball as close to the centre of the crosshairs as possible during the allotted time.

You will have foot pedals to control the x axis movement, as well as a joystick to handle the y axis movement,

Sensory Motor Apparatus FAQs

How do I prepare for Sensory Motor Apparatus? As this test is a pure hand-eye coordination test, you'll struggle to improve on your current abilities. If you have enough preparation time you could look at practicing with video games of your choice. Any shooter or flying game with a handheld controller or joystick would be sure to help.
