Two units of the Diploma sit here — leading, managing and team working, and continued professional development — and together they carry more guided learning hours than radiography. They are also the areas candidates most often skip, because they feel less like dentistry. The questions are about the rules you work within: what you may do, who is responsible when a task is delegated, and what the GDC requires of you as a registrant.
What development & teamwork covers in the Knowledge Test
- Enhanced CPD: 50 verifiable hours over a five-year cycle, and a minimum of 10 hours in any two years
- Personal development plans, reflection and the four GDC development outcomes
- Scope of practice, additional skills and working within your training
- Delegation: who may be asked to do what, and who stays responsible
- Raising concerns, duty of candour and the nine GDC Standards principles
- Handover, supervision, appraisal and induction of new team members
- Indemnity and the annual registration declaration
Where candidates lose marks
Confusing the 50-hour total for the cycle with the 10-hour minimum required in any two-year period.
Assuming private reading counts as verifiable CPD. Verifiable activity needs documentary evidence from the provider.
Thinking an employer can extend your scope of practice. Only appropriate training can, and the scope itself is set by the GDC.
Believing responsibility transfers with a delegated task. The person delegating retains overall responsibility for the patient.
