The HESI A2 at a glance
The HESI A2 is modular: your program chooses which sections you take. English and Math sections have 55 questions (50 scored), science sections have 30 (25 scored), and your composite is the average of your section scores. There's no pass mark: your program sets the score it needs, often 75%.
Reading Comprehension
Health-related passages: main idea, supporting details, word meaning in context, inferences and conclusions.
Vocabulary and General Knowledge
Everyday and health care words, word parts and meaning from context.
Grammar
Parts of speech, agreement, sentence structure, punctuation and common errors.
Basic Math Skills
Fractions, decimals, percents, ratios and proportions, conversions, Roman numerals and military time.
Anatomy and Physiology
Terminology and every body system, from cardiovascular and respiratory to nervous and endocrine.
Biology
Biological molecules, metabolism, cells, cellular respiration, photosynthesis and genetics.
Chemistry
Matter, atomic structure, the periodic table, bonding, reactions, solutions and acids and bases.
Elsevier's recommended times. A few programs, mostly radiography, also use a Physics section, and LearnHESI covers it too. Check with your program for the sections and times it uses.
